Mangareva, Gambier Archipelago

The Gambier Archipelago is the most isolated in French Polynesia, hence its nickname of islands at the end of the world. An ancient volcano rich in trace elements and metallic salts, it comprises four high islands including Mangareva, the main island. The archipelago boasts a 90-kilometre coral barrier, a true paradise for diving enthusiasts and excellent conditions for pearl farming and our customers know that their Tahiti Pearls come exclusively from the Tuamotu-Gambier. Mangareva, just its name invites travel and I invite you to discover one of the many jewels I cherish in French Polynesia. Rikitea is the island's only town, nestled in a setting of greenery and flamboyant flora, Mangareva is an essential stop for all nautical travellers navigating the world. As on all the Polynesian islands, small chapels complete the idyllic scenery of paradise on earth. Here, one walks slowly, inhales the scent of acacias lining the paths and traverses this island to its end where one contemplates the bay of Rikitea from Mataihutea Point. In summary, here you will find concentrated in a tiny spot an array of all you can discover in Polynesia, varied landscapes of colours, pine forests with fragrant flowers, a bay teeming with tropical fish, a rarely visited haven of peace which makes it an exceptional site. Only about a thousand inhabitants at 1700 kms from Papeete, airfare is very high but worth the trip, believe me, unless you are lucky enough to approach it by sea...
