Fafapiti Pendant Details – Manta Ray in Puau Shell and Rhodium-Plated Silver The body of the manta ray is crafted from Puau shell, also known as abalone or sea opal. This piece displays natural grooves — the signature of this living material. These are not cracks, but organic lines that reflect the shell’s rarity and the complexity of its structure.
Due to its uneven surface, working with Puau requires meticulous assembly to achieve a result that is both harmonious and authentic. A protective varnish coats the surface, giving it a smooth, silky touch while enhancing its luminous, shifting hues. The manta ray’s head is made of rhodium-plated sterling silver (925), offering a lasting shine and refined finish. Weight of the silver component: 0.60 gram.
